Miracles happen at Christmas...

I have always been quite skeptic about miracles and whether they happen or not. I suppose I have always believed in them but never said it out loud.

Anyways, this year I wished for snow for Christmas - after living in a warmer climate for some months, snow seemed like a good idea. I kept making jokes about ordering the weather I like and was sure that there would be no snow as it had not snowed much (rather at all) this winter.

So everyone can imagine how amazed I was when it started snowing only 2 hours after I landed in Sofia. Stopped the next day and I said to myself - it will melt by Christmas and it will not be white anymore.

And again - started snowing on Christmas day again! The most peacefully falling, white and beautiful snow!

Miracles do happen... We simply need to believe in them...

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

I swear I was not naughty at all this year. I was actually quite nice!

Oh come on, lets face it - I know you see everyone and have a list (which you check twice) so you probably know how naughty I was... Sorry for lying...

Anyways, remember how last year I asked you for a car? And said I will take care of the drivers license? Well, this year all I ask for is a drivers license (a Spanish one, please). I'll get the car myself...

Also, please tell us where to find the whitest beach ever - our decent men will be waiting there for us...

That is all. And next year I promise I will be nice :)

Thanks, Santa :)

P.S. Please tell the dwarfs they rock ;)

Proud to be Bulgarian!

I'll get that printed out on a Tshirt. And on a coffee mug. And on stickers that I will be sticking at random spots in office. And on a jumper. And everywhere I can.

We might not be a really great nation, we might not have invented thousands of useful things, we might have a small, not very populated country, we might have lost a few wars (and won none), we might be generally poor and miserable. We might be internationally unknown.

But I am still proud to be Bulgarian. No matter what people say.

And anyways, you cannot really choose where to be born, can you?

¡Soy una idiota!

Ever since moving to Southern Spain, I am struggling to learn the language. Of course, no success so far, otherwise I would not have been moaning so much lately.

My Spanish teacher, Sheila, is still optimistic and deeply convinced I will be fluent sooner or later. I look at her, wonder why certain people are so naive and quietly keep nodding to her when she speaks Spanish to me.

Anyways, seems like I learn stuff once in a while. Now I can finally say out loud: ¡Soy una idiota! . Fair enough after spending 6 months here, aint it?

I told you so!

It takes at least 4 midnight phone calls with the English Customer Service team of Vodafone Espana to get your phone working properly. At least for now.

They are pretty impressed with the fact I start reciting my name, phone number and passport number before even being asked for, I myself am impressed with the fact no one can help me for more than 24 hours.

I am already used to the rules of Spain: manana, tranquillo, espere. But sometimes you really want to send this text now - saying I love you to someone you know needs it desperately, saying Good night to someone who does not expect it and will like the surprise or just saying Hi. And the text fails and fails and fails, your touch screen suddenly stops working and Victor does not understand the sarcasm in your voice.

This is when that tiny bit of you which doubted your decision of moving to the end of the world grins at you and says I told you so.

Page killer? WTF?

I started using Google Chrome a few weeks back and till yesterday had almost nothing to complain about (apart from the fact that I cannot blog properly using it - the HTML does not really do what I want it to do).

But today it made me laugh so much I will stop complaining at all. My internet was really bad and therefore Facebook was causing trouble as well. Then I got this pop-up:

Cute, ain't it?

Lucky number three

Just when you think things in your life are finally starting to go the right way, the impossible will definetely happen.

First I missed my flight from London to Gibraltar. I knew that everything will be all right and I will reach home safe and hopefully soon but a part of me was screaming: 'Panick, for God's sake! Thats what people have to do in such a situation.' So after being calm for about 5 minutes, I gave up and panicked. The agents from Easyjet did add to my panick, telling me with their widest smiles that the next flight will be on the next day. Staying in London even without a proper plug for my laptop & without my Spanish phone (whch thanks to Vodafone and the 'manana policy' was deactivated on the same day I flew to Sofia) did not seem too tempting.

After finally arriving home a whole day later I was laughing at me already. Only 2 days later, on a glorious Saturday morning I woke up at 5.30 am to find out both my internet connection and phone have been cut off. I had recieved a text the previous night that there is something wrong with my bill but I was convinced I have enough money on my bank account (my bank statement had arrived a day earlier confirming the same) so everything seemed to be fine.

Later the same day, at the Vodafone office I was told that for some reason my bill is not paid and I have to wait till Monday to pay. That was a prospect for a bright weekend without any connection to the outer world.

I was starting to think there is not much more that can possibly go wrong. Turned out I have been wrong Texting Rene at what I was thought was 10 to 7 am I realised today is the last Sunday of October - Daylight saving time change. I had only one chance to sleep an hour more this year and I blew it up.

Arriving in office an hour earlier Rene told me bad things usually happen in threes. I will keep that in mind and will quietly wait for the good thing that will make it up.

Finally in English

A few friends have been asking me to start blogging in English as well but so far it did not feel natural, in a way. But since I am already settling in Gib and kind of adopting the English speaking lifestyle I felt I no longer have an excuse.

So there we are. Whoever expects me to blog regularly and in an extremely interesting way will probably be deeply disappointed. I am a generally boring person living a boring little life in a boring little country.

But for those who survive, I will do my best. Enjoy :)
